Worse still, we're addicted to cheap fast fashion, so a lot of these clothes are not worn nearly enough. The average value per item purchased by Australians is AUD $13, far lower than the UK ($40), USA ($24), Japan ($30) or even Brazil ($16).
It's a hard pill to swallow but we are a very, very wasteful country when it comes to fashion.

Each pair of secondhand jeans saves 800 litre of water on average. Not to mention all the oil, cotton, and other raw materials required to produce a simple piece of clothing.

Minimising waste
More than 200,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill each year, the equivalent weight of almost four Sydney Harbour Bridges. Choosing secondhand means diverting these items from landfills, and into our wardrobe instead.
